Also known as Copper Beech this makes a stunning specimen hedge. It is fast-growing and has oval to elliptic, glossy, dark purple leaves turning rich copper in autumn. The russet-brown leaves stay on the hedge all winter providing interest and screening. The old leaves fall off in mid-spring when the new leaves emerge. Prune Beech hedges in late summer to ensure that the crisp brown winter leaves stay on during the winter. Position in full sun or partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Ultimate height: 30m. Suitable for a hedge height of 1m to 3 m. Aspect: North, South, East, West.
